Featured Seller: Ellembee

Our Featured seller for this week is Ellembee! She makes amazing shirts for young and old by using screen printing! I haven't purchased one of her shirts yet, but I plan on doing so in the very near feature, because I keep looking at the Entanglement long sleeve tee above! I hope you enjoy reading her interview and check out her shop! Thanks, Lisa for doing this interview!
You can visit her by clicking on the etsy-mini on the left or by going to
http://www.ellembee.etsy.com

How long have you been screen printing and working with clothing, and how did
you become interested in it?

I just started screen printing about 5 months ago. I was a bedding designer in California for the past 4 years, until I got laid off in January. I moved back to Michigan, where I grew up, and had to find a way to make some money! I had taken a screen printing class in college, so I knew the basics. I looked at some how-to videos on Youtube, and read a few books on the subject, and just sort of fumbled my way through figuring out how to do it!

From where do you draw your inspiration?

I get inspiration from the weirdest places! Usually, I'll glance at something and think it's something else. That sounds weird. lol. For example!: the other day I was driving and I saw this billboard that had a huge key drawn on it. But the drawing was pretty bad, and I couldn't tell right away what it was, and it sort of looked like a city skyline to me. A few seconds later I realized that it was a key, but I thought that a skyline would look really cool printed on a shirt, and now that will be one of my designs coming out on a hoodie for my fall line.

What is your personal favorite of your collection and why?

I have a love/hate relationship with lacy indigo. The design that I originally thought of for that shirt looks totally different. I sort of happened upon the way it ended up looking, and I think it turned out great. That shirt is my best seller, and I think it's the most original in my line, but because of the bleaching process that I do, and the intricacy of the design, I mess up a lot of them that can't be sent out, (that's the part I hate!)

What do you do to stay positive as an independent business owner?

I LOVE working for myself! I love the fact that how much money I make is completely up to me; I take full responsibility for my income. With amazing places like etsy.com and the local craft fairs that I do, the sky is the limit. I find myself working 14-hour days, 6 and 7 days a week, and it doesn't even faze me, because I love what I'm doing! I love my job!

Lastly, is there anything else you want my readers to know?

Just that I think they'd be really happy with any of the items in my line! When I got started, I really wanted to be able to affect the way someone feels with my clothing. I love going into a dressing room at a store and trying on an outfit that looks so cute on you, and makes you feel so good, that you have to jump up and down! (Am I the only one that does that?!) Anyway, that's how I came up with my slogan ellembee- hand printed clothes that'll make you jump up and down! I love that I get to help people feel good about themselves!

Featured Seller: Crowley Manor

Do you love amazing smelling soaps?!? Then I have found the lady for you! Patricia, with Crowley Manor, will blow your mind with her soaps! She is located right here in Colorado, so that makes her even more special. My husband uses her soaps in the shower and I have her soap in the kitchen as well. Our favorites are Into the Woods, Lemongrass, and Almond Sunset. Although I did just get a shipment from her, and my new favorite is the Pumpkin Harvest! She is always coming out with different scents, and they are always sure to amaze the senses. Thank so much Patricia for doing this interview!

Visit Crowley Manor at: http://www.crowleymanor.etsy.com

How did you get started?

As long as I can remember, I have felt the need to create to be content, I draw, paint on silk, owned a stained glass design studio, designed unique one of a kind handbags (another shop on Etsy adesignerhandbag.etsy.com). It is what drives me and defines me. The longing to put out a great product, and most importantly to bring a smile to the receiver of the product, is the driving force.
One day I decided it would be fun to try soapmaking. Colorado is a very dry climate, and very unkind to my skin. I buried myself in books researching the soapmaking process, took classes with a certified soapmaker and essential oil expert who specializes in certified organic products, began studying herbs and essential oils and their effect on the skin and how people respond to scents, and how it may set the mood for a moment or a day. Also, knowing that goat milk is a wonderful humectant and very close to the skin’s natural ph level , I choose to also offer goat milk soap. I am also aware though that some of us, wish for natural products which are vegan as well, and therefore, I aim to keep all of us happy!
Long story short, I didn’t wish for store bought goat milk and researched dairy goats, ones which had the highest butterfat content (for the creamiest soaps and if by chance I ever find the time, I will also make Chevre cheese) I searched for just the right goats for over a year, crossing Colorado from one end to the next, as I wished to see the stock first hand. I fell in love with the Nigerian dwarf breed, due to their demeanor, size and that almighty yummy milk! My husband is the Crowley part, of Irish decent, I could not use Crowley Castle as it still stands (one wall of it) in Cork County, Ireland dating back to the feudal era. So, the next best thing, we would be Crowley Manor. It’s all in fun and certainly better than “Goatzilla” as my dear husband would have had us call the herd.

What inspires you?

Ah… soap scents, my mind always wonders…happy, sad, energized, relaxed, depending on my mood, I begin playing with the essential oils, or driving in the mountains I want to relay a certain feeling. Imagine the warm sun on your skin…..maybe transports you to the tropics. Close your eyes, can you smell the ocean, or the scent of sweet almonds and oranges. Perhaps it’s in the midst of winter and you can’t wait to get home and away from 6 feet of snow piling up outside, turn the key, open the door and a wonderful aroma of hot tea and cinnamon wafts through the room…that’s how the ideas pop into my head. My favorites in the winter Oatmeal Milk and Honey with the coffee bean, it is a very comforting winter scent or the Fireside Orange Spice, Spring I enjoy the Into the woods unisex bar or Lavender and for those hot summer days the citrusy bars such as Lemongrass, or Royal Riverbend are some of my favorites.

What do you love most about Etsy?

I came across Etsy quite by chance a couple of years ago, I was googling something, found a shop of interest with a link to Etsy and the rest is history. There is not one particular feature that stands in mind at this time, as again that will depend whether I am chatting with other etsyans, or answering and reading through the forums, but I can say that Etsy is a very positive experience for me and that I am making friends worldwide who would never entered my realm had it not been for Etsy and I am very thankful for all whom I have met thus far.

What do you enjoy doing when you aren't creating amazing soaps?

In the bit of time that is left, I visit my two horses who are boarded on a ranch about 15 mins. from our house. I wish they could be with us full-time to, but this works best for us this way. They have a 50 acre pasture with a running creek in a pretty mountain meadow. It is funny to see them galloping across the pasture to meet us, as they know that I have their grain bucket in hand, ready to give them a treat. My Morgan/Arab "Beau" is 15 but you would think he is a teenager still and always full of pranks and surprises. Our quarterhorse "Dreamweaver" is younger but quite a gentleman and a sweetheart of a horse. He is a full 16 hands and a beautiful sorrel color with white socks. If not with them we play with the goats and our English bulldogs Dozer and Rocky and last and not least "Shibi" our rescue Dutch Sheperd. We enjoy going for mountain rides in a 1992 "Smurf" blue miata that my husband is constantly refurbishing :)in search of new vistas. We just love life here in the Colorado mountains and feel very lucky to live here.

Sassy Paci Clips!

I'm proud to introduce our new line...the Sassy Paci Clips!!! What a great way to keep track of your baby's pacifier in style! I will be adding more styles every week, so keep a look out! Each pacifier clip comes with a plastic clip to attach to clothing. The other end has a snap on it, which will attach to most pacifiers on the market, excluding a few. I am waiting for a shipment of silicone rings adapters for those button pacifiers, and will make those available once I receive them for an additional charge.

Featured Seller: RaeChele's

I'm so excited to have this shop as my next Featured Seller! One gal is a great Etsy/Chat/Blog friend of mine, Michele. Michele and her friend Rae are opening a new shop on Etsy and tomorrow is the GRAND OPENING!! I can't wait to see all of the children's stuff they are going to list! They have amazing talent and I can't wait to see all the stuff they've come up with!

MICHELE says....

How did you get started?

I was 9 years old when I first discovered my grandmother's sewing machine. She took me to K-Mart (yes K-Mart) and bought me a yard of fabric and sundress pattern. I sat in the floor and laid everything out and cut what I needed. I put that whole thing together all by myself. It looked fantastic (at least to a 9 year old girl ) all except that I did not know how to put in a hem, lol, and I did not want any help. Needless to say, that beautiful little butterfly patterned dress never saw daylight.

What inspires you?

I would have to say that being able to be home with my son has to be what keeps me going. I could not imagine having to take a "J-O-B" and miss him growing up.

What do you love most about Etsy?

It would have to be the individuality. There are so many creative folks that create in so many ways.

What do you love to do besides creating for your shop?

Of course spending time with my family is what is most important to me. My husband and I have been married for 10 years and together have the most beautiful son and do not forget our very sweet Boxer Baby Tyson.

What is your favorite item in your shop at the moment (or in your case, what will be your favorite item)?

I would have to say that it would be my Funky Diamond Dot Peasant Top.
It just turned out so spectacularly darling.

RAE says...

How did you get started?

Started sounds like there was once a beginning. As far back as I can remember, I have wanted to do some thing with my talents. My husband has been encouraging me for years, but I never really would have done any of this without Michele. She is the driving force, the beginning.

What inspires you?

Lots of things inspire me. I really love fabric. When I see a great print I think to myself, "How can I use this in a way no one else would to make something everyone will love?"

What do you love most about Etsy?

I love that Etsy has such a variety of creative individuals all together and so accessible. I love to just sit and watch the front page change every 15 seconds.

What do you love to do besides creating for your shop?

I have six kids. I love to be with my family. I love being a Cub Scout leader. I love to read. I love to watch my son's hamster chew paper. ( give her note cards on the fly) I find it vary relaxing.

What is your favorite item in your shop at the moment (or in your case,
what will be your favorite item)?

I really don't know, each item is so different. My favorite things to make are the go-go style diva dresses. But since I am forced to choose, I'm going with the Cowboy crib set. ( Look forward to the Math Diva, I really think it's going to be HOT, but it's not done yet).

Featured Seller: AJ's Country Cottage

Our featured seller for this week is AJ's Country Cottage! I'm so excited to feature AJ as I love her candles and I have one in every room in my home! Her scents fill the room and the aroma just spreads throughout the house. My current favorites are Lemon Pound Cake and Pink Sugar, although I will be purchasing some of her Fall scents very soon! She is so great with communication and she convo's you each time you purchase and when she ships, so you always know the status of your order. Thank you, AJ, for allowing us to take a peek into your world!

How did you get started?

I've always loved creating things; I poured my first novelty candles when I was about 13. When I got older, the scent junkie in me got frustrated with store-bought candles that smelled great cold, but not at ALL when burning. So I decided to see if I was up to the challenge of building a better candle, one that actually scented a room when lit. After lots of research and practice, I figured out how to get what I was looking for. From that base, I springboarded into making my own soaps and bath & body items so I could control what went into the recipes and onto my skin. OK, OK ... I'll admit that part of the reason was so I could have my favorite scents with me in the shower!

What inspires you?

Nature! I love taking walks in the country. My rambles inspire reflection, and I think about new scent blends to try, new soap recipes to test, new looks to try to achieve. I want to capture the colors of a sunset, the smell of fresh rain, the feel and look of my favorite garden herbs. I don't always succeed in achieving my vision, but the journey itself is always rewarding. And sometimes the unexpected turns out to be better than anything I had planned!

What do you love most about Etsy?

I love how I can interact with customers on a one-on-one basis. They can convo me about what they're looking for, and I can answer their specific questions and point them in the right direction, if possible. And I love getting feedback about my products! It's the next best thing to selling face to face.

What do you love to do when you are not making your yummy candles and soaps?

I have an awesome family. I don't want to be so busy with creating that I neglect to build relationships with them. So I love spending fun time with my husband and teenagers. I also love crocheting and knitting, even though I'm still a rookie knitter! Working with yarn is so rewarding and relaxing for me, so when our family is resting by watching a video, or when we're riding in the car on a long trip, you'll usually find me with yarn and a hook or a pair of needles in hand. I'm telling you, I was BORN to create! I just can't NOT make things.

What is your favorite item from your shop at the moment?

Ooooh, I'm SO super excited about my new fall candle scents! I have been testing oodles and gobs of new ones, and I'm so stoked about them because I absolutely LOVE autumn! Everything about fall appeals to me -- the weather, the gorgeous colors of the foliage, and the delicious scents of the harvest! Must be because I was born in the autumn. :) It's hard to pick a favorite, but right now I'm especially loving my Cornucopia, Harvest Moon, and Vanilla Butter Cookies soy candles. They're so lovely and just perfect for the upcoming season. I'm such a sucker for vanillas, spices, and woodsy scents.

If you would like to visit AJ's shop, click on any of the photos to the left or go to (and tell her that Sassy Bows sent you:)):

Featured Seller: Boutique Mia

Our featured seller for the next two weeks is Boutique Mia. I have already purchased a pillowcase dress for my daughter and a pillowcase top and a pencil skirt for myself! She is so easy to work with and items are shipped so quickly, even though she custom makes them for each customer! Packaging is amazing and you feel as though you are getting a gift each time she ships something to you. Thank you for being our featured seller, Christel!

How did you get started?

Ever since I can remember I always told my mom, dad and anybody that would listen, I wanted to be a fashion designer. Actually even went to school for it, but felt I had to grow up and it would only be dream, never reality. So I went into the corporate world for 10 years. But finally realized there had to be more to life; Quit my job, sold our house and most of our belongings, moved overseas to travel and live. We ended up missing the States too much, so we moved back shortly after. We downsized everything, and relocated in Dallas, Texas. One day I took out my sewing machine to create and haven’t stopped since. If someone had asked me 10 years ago if I would be designing clothes, I would have laughed and told them “no way”. I could not be happier.

What inspires you?

Anything and everything, at times I remember an old clothing item from my favorite and dearest grandmother and I try to re-create it with a twist.

What do you love most about etsy?

All the fantastic creative people. The freedom Etsy gave me to stay home and showcase my craft.

What do you love to do besides making beautiful clothing?

Coming up with new ideas, of new creative things for my friends or I can do.

What is your favorite item from your shop at the moment?

My newest is the Aline a la' Tulip sleeve. When I started I was thinking...oh no...not very pretty and when it was done, I fell in love with the sleeves...just so pretty.

Featured Seller: Sonya

Looking for a great little gift for a birthday, Christmas, or just because?? These cute little pouches in a wide array of patterns and colors are it!! The prices are great and they have so many uses. I recently bought two for myself and I use one to put all of my receipts in and one for my business cards. They would also be great to put gift cards in! Sonya is having a great sale so check out her items on the left before the sale ends this Thursday, July 31st, you can just click on any picture on the left to take you to her shop!
Sonya, the creator of these adorable pouches, was sweet enough to be my first featured seller! Thanks Sonya!
Check out her shop at: http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=220

How did you get started?

I’ve grown up in a huge family full of crafty women and have always been surrounded by handmade goods. My mom got me a sewing machine when I was younger but I never really got into sewing until I stumbled upon Craftster.org in the Spring of 2005 and then a few months later joined Etsy.com within a couple days if its launching. It took me a year to start selling on Etsy after I joined, but that was 2 years ago and I just recently hit my 1,000 sales mark!

What inspires you?

Color and fabrics really inspire me. I just love bright, happy colors and prints.

What do you love most about Etsy?

I love how incredibly easy Etsy is to work with and how simple it is to start a business with it. Etsy has given me an outlet for the things that I love to make and I love sending my creations all over the world for people to enjoy.

What do you love to do besides making awesome things?

I love to read, play Wii, spend time with my man, and be outdoors sucking up nature. Making things fills the gaps between the rest of my life.

What is your favorite item from your shop?

At the moment I pretty much only have my Mighty Mini Pouches for sale. I make larger bags and purses as well, but when life was busy with college and job hunting, the mini pouches were quick to make and sold like crazy, so I kept at it. I enjoy making them and use them all the time to help keep my bags clutter free.

My favorite bow...

This is one of my favorite bows at the moment...of course it's turquoise and brown and those are my favorite colors at the moment...so enjoy!!!

Welcome!!!

Welcome to Sassy Bows Boutique "new and improved" blog! I have decided to leave my personal blog as is, posting pictures of my little one, and keep this one focused on my business. You can still visit my other blog at http://brynnsbabble.blogspot.com

I would like to thank Michele with Elite Boutique Designs (see her creations on the left) for creating this awesome blog for me and for spending so much time (I think it was over 2 hours) chatting with me to make sure I was happy with the design! She is a computer genius (to me at least) and she can sew!!

I will be posting a new poll each week so keep a look out and be sure to vote!

Love,
Kelli
